Senator Jim Bunning has reported raising another $302,466 in the last three months putting his total for the election cycle at $1.2 million according to the Associated Press.
While he has been very clear that his efforts have been hampered by a busy schedule in Washington and the obstruction he feels coming from Mitch McConnell, Senator Bunning will no doubt be painted by those who wish him ill as failing to raise enough to be a contender.
However, most observers note that Trey Grayson's second quarter haul was only half of that raised by Jack Conway, and that Rand Paul so far has only raised about a third of what Senator Bunning raised in the last three months alone.
Counting money on hand and the positions Senator Bunning is on record as having taken against the increasingly unpopular agenda of Barack Obama, a clear signal from Grayson and Paul that they are in the primary race to defeat Bunning will certainly work against them and in Senator Bunning's favor on the fundraising front.
No comment from Bunning, Grayson or Paul yet on the status of things, but look for both Grayson and Paul to make announcements no later than the upcoming Fancy Farm picnic, and look for Grayson to make his earlier than Paul that he is in the race to stay.
