Barack Obama has named John Holdren as Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology, our "Science Czar".
Here are some of the ideas Holdren advanced back in 1997 as to how science and technology could be used to help shape a more perfect world:
"Laws requiring compulsory abortion could be sustained under the existing Constitution."
"Adding a sterilant to drinking water or staple foods...To be acceptable, such a substance would have to meet some rather stiff standards: it must be uniformly effective."
"A program of sterlizing women after their second or third child, might be easier to implement than trying to sterlize men."
"The development of a long-term sterlizing capsule that could be implanted under the skin ...opens the additional possibilities for coercive fertility control...and might be removable, with official permission, for a limited number of births."
