Kentucky Democratic Party To Get New Chair, Will It Be Nathan Smith?
PageOneKentucky today broke the story that the KDP is about to undergo significant organizational changes, perhaps moving forward with plans often pushed by its vice chair, Nathan Smith, to hire a professional executive director to manage the day to day operations and to name a new set of officers with more ceremonial and fundraising duties.
It now appears that the KDP will in fact move in that direction and rumors abound that Smith is the odds on favorite for the top spot.
Smith has proven himself a relentless and very successful fundraiser for the party and his business background coupled with his ability to wage a fight for Northern Kentucky seems to have caught the attention of Governor Beshear.
It is often the chairman of the party who is on the front line of attack against his party's opponents. And in Smith's case, his "down home" expressions are perfectly suited for the job of the state chair in Kentucky. As I have observed before, his style comes close to the wit and sass of James Carville. With a smile on his face Smith can cut the legs out from under anyone who underestimates him.
While no one is talking about any final decisions at this point in time, don't be surprised if Northern Kentucky's Nathan Smith ends up as chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party in the very near future.
