Second Helping Of Humor

2008-10-31-Halloween-Obama

When You're On A Roll, Why Stop With The First Amendment, What About The Second?

Obama stammers out his very clear position on the right to bear arms:

Three Papers Endorsed McCain, All Three KICKED OFF Obama's Plane

In a bold move sure to convince the remaining skeptics that an Obama presidency might include punishment for any who criticize him, the Obama campaign has told three major US newspapers to pack up and leave his press plane by Sunday.  Which three? The NY Post, The Dallas Morning News and The Washington Times, all three having endorsed Senator McCain.

This from Drudge:

Despite pleas from top editors of the three newspapers that have covered the campaign for months at extraordinary cost, the Obama campaign says their reporters -- and possibly others -- will have to vacate their coveted seats so more power players can document the final days of Sen. Barack Obama's historic campaign to become the first black American president.

And this from "The First Congress Of The Communists International" meeting March 1919:

“Freedom of the press” is another of the principal slogans of “pure democracy”. And here, too, the workers know — and Socialists everywhere have explained millions of times —that this freedom is a deception because the best printing presses and the biggest stocks of paper are appropriated by the capitalists, and while capitalist rule over the press remains—a rule that is manifested throughout the whole world all the more strikingly, sharply and cynically—the more democracy and the republican system are developed, as in America for example. The first thing to do to win really equality and genuine democracy for the working people, for the workers and peasants, is to deprive capital of the possibility of hiring writers, buying publishing houses and bribing newspapers.

BlackVoiceNews.com: "Racism Has No Place In Campaigns, Vote Obama"

Hardy Brown writing for BlackVoiceNews.com:

We are on the eve of a new day in America while standing at the door of a new opportunity -- moving forward and not forgetting that which is behind -- but grabbing hold to the change of renewed hope. On November 4th, the election our ancestors dreamed of and many thought would never happen during their lifetime is going to take place...it will be an opportunity to break the shackles of hopelessness that has weighed us down for so long.

All you have to do is take a few moments and vote and remind your friends and neighbors to vote by November 4th for Barack Obama. Racism No Place in Campaigns.

Would any of the Obama supporters who read this blog care to explain to everybody how, what some are calling the apparent hypocrisy in this article, is not hypocrisy?

Charles Krauthammer's "OPEN & SHUT CASE FOR MCCAIN"

In a dangerous world entering an era of uncontrolled nuclear proliferation, the choice between the most prepared foreign policy candidate in memory vs. a novice with zero experience and the wobbliest one-world instincts is not a close call.

Both McCain and Barack Obama have assembled fine economic teams that may differ on the details of their plans but have reasonable approaches to managing the crisis.

McCain is who he always was. An eclectic, moderate, generally centrist agenda in a guy almost congenitally given to bipartisanship.

Obama, on the other hand, talks less and less about bipartisanship, his calling card during his earlier messianic stage. He does not need to. If he wins, he will have large Democratic majorities in both houses. And unlike 1992, Obama is no Clinton centrist.

What will you get?

(1) Card check, meaning the abolition of the secret ballot in the certification of unions in the workplace. Large men will come to your house at night and ask you to sign a card supporting a union. You will sign.

(2) The so-called Fairness Doctrine -- a project of Nancy Pelosi and leading Democratic senators -- a Hugo Chavez-style travesty designed to abolish conservative talk radio.

(3) Judges who go beyond even the constitutional creativity we expect from Democratic appointees. Judges chosen according to Obama's publicly declared criterion: "empathy" for the "poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old" -- in a legal system historically predicated on the idea of justice entirely blind to one's station in life.

(4) An unprecedented expansion of government power. Yes, I know. It has already happened. A conservative government has already partially nationalized the mortgage industry, the insurance industry and nine of the largest U.S. banks.

A little video for your thought processes

Rarely does one piece of information answer all of the questions in the human mind.  After all, even The Bible is divided into Testaments, Books, Chapters and Verses.

And while there are many sources of information out there which we might consult to help us make decisions, and I encourage you to become familiar with as many as possible, in the end we all tend to gravitate toward those bits of information which seem to us, to reflect the truth.

Every day I read dozens of newspapers and scores of other websites.  I read right leaning and left leaning tomes.  I study issues, I voluntarily expose myself to spin and then choose through my own filter and bias and motivations which to place on this blog.  After all, that's the beauty of "The New Media".

Here's a little video I had sent to me yesterday.  I emailed it to some of my friends who I thought might like it.  Then I decided to add it to the library of knowledge for my larger audience here at BluegrassBulletin.

I think it will stimulate your thought processes.  You may agree with it, disagree with it, be moved in a positive way by it or repulsed.  But in any of these events, it will add to your frame of reference.

I Can't Believe What I'm About To Type: Congrats To Governor Beshear

On more than one occassion I have been skeptical when Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear began talking about the Commonwealth's budget.  That's because as everybody knows he has virtually pledged his soul to bringing casino gambling to Kentucky.

But this week when the Governor started talking about our finances he finally got the matter exactly right.  Our situation calls for spending cuts.

Now there is no doubt this announcement by a democrat in Kentucky may very well be designed to sound the alarm among his tax and spend cronies in the legislature moving votes toward approving a ballot initiative on gambling, but so far talking about cuts is the exact right thing to do.

If the legislature wants to deal with spending cuts as an affront to their big government model of running things, then it is they who will have to answer to the people.

But so long as the Governor keeps trying to find ways to make government more austere, he deserves the congratulations of even this cynical old republican.

Secretary Of State Trey Grayson Wants You To Know

In a conference call last week Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson made it clear to bloggers that his office is dedicated to helping Kentuckians vote on Tuesday with as much information as possible.

Toward that end he has established a special web site "Vote.ky.gov"   "This is a voter information center.", Trey said.  "It includes lots of information voters need for election day including a source for them to find their polling place and is also a place for voters to report problems too."

Trey also took time to discuss potential problems in Kentucky this year.

"Our biggest concerns this year is long lines", he said.  "We are expecting a record turnout.  As in past years I encourage voters should take advantage of early voting by absentee ballot or the early voting machine in their county if they qualify because they will be absent on election day."

When asked if ACORN was involved in Kentucky this year and if this was a concern regarding voter problems he said no.  "Kentucky operates on an ID system.  Voters either have to be known to the poll workers or show a government issued ID at the polling place.  In some instances they may use a credit card, a utility bill or a college ID."

Trey said he wanted to remind voters against electioneering within a polling place.  "Small lapel pins on a voter do not violate the rules, but any discussion or signs or literature within the polling place are not allowed."

Trey also cautioned about a YouTube project which encourages people to submit videos of their voting experience. "In Kentucky this kind of recording within the polling place is prohibited.  This is particularly a concern with all of the camera phones out there.  If people want to video for YouTube they must not do so within the 300 foot electioneering zone."

For voters who may have moved but not changed their registration Trey reminded them that they can only vote within the county they are registered.  If they have moved between counties, they cannot vote over county lines.

As reported here earlier Trey's acknowledgment of the growing reach of the "New Media" including blogs like this one shows that he is a very smart guy, but in this instance it also shows his true concern for an open, accurate and fair election.

For more information don't forget to check Vote.Ky.Gov.  It's a great site which addresses the needs of voters, answers questions and even delves into the always troublesome area of dispelling election rumors.

Pet Shop Owner Shoots, Kills Robbery Suspect

Cleveland Police believe a shop owner who shot a robbery suspect Monday acted in self-defense.

Police were called to the Cleveland Aviary on Bosworth Avenue in Cleveland (see Google map below ) Monday afternoon. According to Lt. Thomas Stacho, the suspect was dead on the front step of the pet shop when the first officers arrived.

According to police, the 86-year-old shop owner, whose name police did not release, was in the back room of the shop when the robber entered. Police said there was one clerk working in the front of the shop.

"The robber set upon him, immediately put a knife to his throat and ordered him to open the cash register," Stacho said.

Police said the shop owner came out the back room with a gun and asked the robber to leave.

"He ordered the robber to leave; the robber did not; he approached him in a menacing manner and the second man fired one round striking the man in the chest killing him," Stacho said.

The shop owner's daughter, Maria Oviero, said the shop had been the target of thieves before. She said her father got a gun after a couple of failed robbery attempts. She hoped he would never have to use the gun.

"It's sad that he has to use that kind of force. It's sad, but he had to do what he had to do. I'm just glad he is OK," Oviero said.

Police did not release the name of the suspect.
